Swedish Mauser M/38, 6.5×55 mm
The M/38 is a carbine version of the famous M/96, a rifle that by many is considered as the most accurate infantry rifle of its day. The only differences are that the M/38 has a shorter barrel and a bent bolt handle, and that only a few main parts are numbered. Other than that it is identical to the M/96, and every bit as reliable and accurate.
Many M/96 rifles were converted to carbine length, and this variation is often referred to as 96/38. Most often they retained the straight M/96 bolt handle, but they can always be identified by their year of manufacture. This one is a “true” 1941 M/38 in excellent condition, and it is numbers matching.
The bolt sleeve and the firing pin were unnumbered from the factory, but have been armory numbered. This was common practice among Swedish armorers, as it made sure that they kept the parts together with the gun during repairs and overhauls. The bore is clean and bright with sharp rifling, and the stock is unusually clean with only a few, small nicks.
The Swedish Mauser rifles were built to exceptionally high standards, and this one is no exception. The quality is entirely on par with commercial rifles, and the action is very smooth with a nice, crisp trigger. This is a rifle that both collectors and shooter will enjoy!
