Swedish Mauser M/38, 6.5×55 mm
The M/38 is a carbine version of the famous M/96, a rifle that by many is considered as the most accurate infantry rifle of its day. The only differences are that the M/38 has a shorter barrel and a bent bolt handle, and that only a few main parts are numbered. Other than that it is identical to the M/96, and every bit as reliable and accurate.
Many M/96 rifles were converted to carbine length, and this variation is often referred to as 96/38. Most often they retained the straight M/96 bolt handle, but they can always be identified by their year of manufacture. This one is a “true” 1942 M/38 in excellent condition, and all parts that should be numbered match the gun. The cleaning rod shows a different number, but it should be unnumbered so it’s easy to find a replacement. The bore is clean and bright with sharp rifling, and the stock is unusually clean with only a few, small nicks. Complete with original issue leather sling.
The Swedish Mauser rifles were built to exceptionally high standards, and this one is no exception. The quality is entirely on par with commercial rifles, and the action is very smooth with a nice, crisp trigger. This is a rifle that both collectors and shooter will enjoy!
