Rare CZ 27, WWII Deutsche Reichsbahn
$2,500.00
CZ 27, .32 ACP
The CZ 27 (or more correctly ČZ vz. 27) is one of the most rugged and reliable .32 pistols of its time, but for some reason it wasn’t a great commercial success. CZ only made 15,000 of them between 1927 and 1939, and many of them remained unsold at the time Germany occupied Czechoslovakia.
A pre-WWII CZ 27 is easily recognized by a high polish commercial finish, slanted slide serrations, a lanyard loop and a blank slide without the German “Pistole Modell 27” marking. Also, the top of the slide is marked “Česká zbrojovka A.S v Praze”, instead of the later German “Böhmische Waffenfabrik AG in Prag”. Due to the low production numbers, these pistols are scarce and very collectible.
After the occupation, the Germans acquired all CZ 27s in stock at the time and about 5,000 went to the Deutsche Reichsbahn (the German state railway). These were proofed with the German eagle and a “K” on the barrel, and they were also property marked with a “DR” in a circle on the trigger guard. This is one of the rarest variations of the CZ 27 pistols.
This Reichsbahn CZ 27 is in excellent condition, and we would rate the original finish at 95% or better. The straw colors are still quite vivid, and the grips are in near mint condition without the all too common chipping at the lower edges. The magazine is the correct, unmarked commercial variation and is in excellent condition. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and some minor spotting throughout.
It’s all original, very clean and in perfect mechanical condition, and it appears to have seen very little use. These rarely come up for sale, so this is your chance if you have been looking for a well preserved example of this this rare variation!
