PSL-54C, 7.62x54R
The PSL (also known as Romak III) is a Romanian designated marksman rifle that has seen widespread use in different conflicts since its introduction in 1974. The main purpose of the PSL is mid-range fire support and sniping, and true to the Com-Bloc “no frills” philosophy it is designed for ease of use, reliability and minimal maintenance.
Although similar in appearance to the Russian SVD “Dragunov” sniper rifle, it is directly based on the tried and true Kalashnikov AK design. This has resulted in an extremely rugged, simple and reliable rifle, which can be used after minimal training by soldiers previously trained on other AK style rifles.
The scope is the Romanian issue 4×24 LPS TIP2, a rugged, fixed power scope that mounts to the standard Warsaw Pact side rail. It features a Russian style reticle with an easy to use stadiametric rangefinder. It includes tritium illumination, although this has been depleted due to age.
Despite the caliber, the PSL is comfortable to shoot since a lot of the recoil is absorbed by the long stroke gas system and a muzzle brake. The steel butt cap may look like it’s painful to use, but it is actually spring loaded and works as an effective shock absorber. The moderate recoil makes follow-up shots quicker and easier than with other rifles in similar calibers, which makes it well suited for quick and efficient fire support during combat.
This is an early import, and comes complete with the correct, military issue scope and two magazines (one 5-round, one 10-round) numbered to the gun. Also included are a protective scope cover, cleaning kit, sling and oil bottle. You may want to compare this with the recent imports that come with a commercial POSP-style scope, only one magazine and no accessories.
We are unsure of the round count, but the rifle is very clean and looks almost like new. We have test fired it without any issues, and as a matter of fact: It was so much fun to shoot that we are almost reluctant to sell it. It doesn’t get any better than this if you want an all correct “as issued” PSL-54C!
