Nambu Type 14, 8mm Nambu
The production of the Type 14 pistols started 1926 in the Chigusa branch of the Nagoya arsenal. Chigusa production ended in 1932 with a total of 7,800 Type 14s made. Only 2,800 of these were marked with the Nagoya symbol next to the serial number, which makes it the rarest of the Type 14 variations.
This pistol was made in 1930, and is in very good condition. It shows wear from honest use, and appears to be well maintained without any signs of abuse. The striker in this pistol is, as in the majority of the Chigusa pistols, of the later “short” type. The original strikers were too heavy and would often cause misfires, so the Chigusa pistols were recalled in 1932 to install the lighter striker used in later Type 14s. The second part of this recall was to install a magazine safety, which is also present in this gun. The stamp on the left side of the frame shows that the recall work was done by the Tokyo arsenal. The grip panels are unmarked, and the matching magazine is factory renumbered.
The Chigusa Type 14s rarely come up for sale, so don’t miss the opportunity to fill this slot in your collection. A must-have for the serious collectors!
