JP Sauer & Sohn 38H, WWII capture – SOLD

$695.00

JP Sauer & Sohn 38H, .32 ACP

This pistol is somewhat of an enigma. JP Sauer & Sohn never made any 38H’s in phosphate finish, so it’s clearly refinished in what appears to be either German phosphate or zinc Parkerizing.

The holster has a name tag that was more than likely put on there by the soldier that captured it. The gun’s finish shows plenty of age and wear, and it looks very similar to the German late war phosphate. We have taken a photo side by side with a dual tone P.38 for comparison.

It was quite common that soldiers refinished captured guns, but it was normally done in a high gloss bluing or nickel to enhance the appearance of their war trophies. It may be that this pistol for some reason was refinished by a German armory, or maybe Sgt. DiNunzio found the 38H easier to carry than a 1911 or M1917 and had it refinished for use during the rest of his service.

Whatever the story may be, this is an interesting WWII relic!
