Finnish SAKO M28/30, 7.62x53R

The M28/30 was the pinnacle of the Finnish Mosin-Nagant rifles, and it was so refined that some features were discarded as being unnecessary for military use in later versions. It was originally intended for the Finnish Civil Guard, and it’s accuracy made it very popular as a military competition rifle. The qualities of this rifle were also recognized by the famous Finnish sniper Simo Häyhä, who used an M28/30 for 219 confirmed kills during the Winter War.

This one was made in 1939 and shows the same features as most 28/30 rifles, partially assembled with parts from captured Russian 91/30 rifles. The “Sk.Y.” and “SA” stamps show that this rifle was originally made for the Finnish Civil Guard, and transferred to the Finnish army later on. The action is in perfect condition and the bore is bright with sharp rifling and some darkening in the grooves. The hard-to-find original sling is still in very good condition, with some minor dry cracks. The stock has not been sanded, so the edges are still very crisp and the Civil Guard brand mark is nicely preserved.

Most experts agree that the M28/30 is the best Mosin-Nagant rifle ever produced, and it’s a must in any serious collection of WWII era firearms.
