Colt Cobra, Detective Special D-frame service grips
$150.00
This variation was used on Colt Cobra and late Detective Special. They will also fit other D-frame revolvers with the “short square butt” grip frame introduced in 1966. Finished with a thin coat of oil to replicate the original factory finish.
The original D-frame service grips always came with silver medallions, but you can also order with gold medallions.
NOTE: These will not fit on the current production Colt Cobra.

JOHN TAFFIN –
In the 1920s Colt looked at their Police Positive Special and mated improvement which actually was an improvement. First they cut the barrel of the .38 Special to 2″ and then they slightly rounded the butt frame. The result became known as the Detective Special. Then in the 1960s they added a lightweight version, the original Cobra. The six-shot .38 Specials do exhibit some recoil which was well-managed by the full checkered walnut grips. Now these original grips are available for the short frame with the grip having an extension to fill in where the frame is missing, resulting in the same original feel. These are beautifully carried out, quality walnut, and full checkered. The first time I ever “saw” a Detective Special was as a kid reading the Dick Tracy comic strip. Tracy would have loved these!

These grips are worth the money. The fit and finish is perfect. They were the last item my old Colt needed and I am so glad I found this website/company

I recently acquired a 1975 Colt Cobra. The gun is in mint condition but it arrived with the stubby factory grips of the period. I originally wanted to replace the wood factory grips with elk stags but was unable to locate a suitable set. They were too square and sharp edged at the base of the butt and, from past experience, I know they add weight to the gun, defeating the concept of the lightweight Cobra. I came across Deer Hollow Enterprises and I’m very glad that I did. The Cobra Replacement Grips are perfect. When I ordered the grips I had no idea that they were manufactured with such an attractive selection of wood. The wood grips have dark, vertical accents, equal to any custom grips that I have purchased in the past. The checkering is crisp and nicely done. The fit to the frame is flawless. Without a doubt, these are the finest service style grips that I have seen on a Colt revolver, far exceeding the factory grips…..and made in the USA 🇺🇸. Please keep up the good work.
