Colt Pocket Positive, .32 Police (.32 S&W Long)
The Colt Pocket Positive was manufactured from 1905 to 1940, and with the addition of the “Positive Safety” hammer block it finalized the design of the legendary Colt V-spring action that was used until the last Pythons left the factory.
This one was made in 1920, and has survived in excellent condition. The caliber is .32 S&W Long, but since Colt didn’t want its biggest competitor’s name on the gun they called it “.32 Police”. The bore is pristine, there’s no carbon buildup around the forcing cone and no powder burn on the cylinder face, so it appears to be factory fired only. The finish shows some aging and freckling, but except for some very minor muzzle wear there are no signs of actual use. The grips are like new with the serial number on the backs of the panels. It looks like a gun that was bought brand new and tucked away immediately. Whatever the case might be, this must be a gun that has spent about 100 years as a safe queen.
Most of these guns have seen long and hard use, so it’s very uncommon to find them in this condition. The older Colts are constantly gaining popularity among the collectors, so high condition examples like this are sure to increase in value.
